With each moment, the seizures that rent the roiling folds of our surroundings provoked every surface into a violent thrashing, threatening to tear the entire structure asunder. Withered strips and knotted contusions formed and reformed, twisting as they spat corrosive bile in arcing jets and belched opaque bubbles of bilious mucous with a loathsome groan.

As the machine contorted further in its anguish, so we too were bent double in wrenching convulsions. Our bodies were tested in this crucible of suffering- and at once, we understood that the machine was reacting not to ourselves, but to the still-huddling hordes of fiends that surged forth to both test and be tested. Hindered by the now virulent flailing of every writhing surface, their advances took on a new savagery, greater depths of feral depravity and frenzied bloodletting.
