Despite a life of wealth and privilege, Artemis found himself drawn to the criminal side of life even from a young age. He used his access to rich citizens, and natural aptitude for sleight of hand to become a swindler with few equals. Under the guise of a traveling magician, he would dupe nobles and gentry of their money, valuables, or both.
One day fate conspired against him, though, as he inadvertently crossed a benefactor of the House of Bliss. When the man discovered his loss, he used his arcane knowledge to curse Artemis, who soon found himself attacked by beasts from the mists of nightmares.
Having destroyed his immediate attackers, he realized he’d forever be a target. Artemis decided that time and distance was the cure, and when he heard of the newly-forming expedition he readily offered his services, eager to probe the limit of his powers.
