As the great beast at last succumbed, lurched and fell, the entire world seemed to erupt shrieking in a dissonant sympathetic chorus.
We felt the pitying wail rattle mercilessly within our skulls, as all at once a quartet of unseen apertures flung themselves wide open, revealing the machinations of workshops beyond, festooned with runic glyph-work and yet more obscure apparatus.
Each room yielded a glimpse of complex contraptions ferrying waves of arcane energy to central gateways that towered like sentries above the clutter within.
With a certainty in our bones, we sensed that this energy was the very same that animated the abominations with which we had duelled.
If we could cause them to pulse in tandem with the presence of the beasts, then what salvation might yet be wrought?
